Ultracold Rydberg gases

Project description
At the Centre for Quantum Technologies and the National University of Singapore, we have an opening for a PhD research project in the area of cold Rydberg gases. Rydberg atoms have exaggerated properties such as large size and large dipole moment, and are a subject of intensive research activities both for advance of fundamental science and for potential applications. The goal of the current project is to study the dynamics of coherent dipole-dipole energy transfer of Rydberg excitations via high-resolution imaging. This project is a part of ongoing experimental effort in our group to investigate quantum dynamics of strongly correlated many-body systems with ultracold Rydberg gases.

The ideal candidate is required to hold or to be awarded in the near future a bachelor degree in physics, and need to have a strong background in quantum mechanics and atom physics, as well as some experience working in a research laboratory in the field of cold atoms.
